POSTGAME NOTES
Appalachian State is the only program to win a bowl game in each of its first three years after the complete transition to the FBS level. Ineligible to play a bowl game as an FBS newcomer with a 7-5 record in 2014, the Mountaineers won 31-29 against Ohio in the 2015 Camellia Bowl, 31-28 against Toledo in the 2016 Camellia Bowl and 34-0 against Toledo in the 2017 Dollar General Bowl.
In the 19-year history of the Dollar General Bowl, App State posted the first shutout. The previous low for points by one team was 13 from Kent State in a 17-13 loss to Arkansas State in 2013.
Appalachian State, Alabama and Clemson are the only teams since 2010 to record a shutout in a bowl game. Alabama had shutouts against LSU (21-0 in the 2011 BCS title game) and Michigan State (38-0 in the 2015 Cotton Bowl). Clemson won 31-0 against Ohio State in the 2016 CFP semifinal.
In leading 20-0 at halftime, App State ended Toledo's streak of scoring in the first half of 45 consecutive games. The Rockets hadn't been shutout since a 38-0 loss to Ohio State on Sept. 19, 2009.
In the modern era, App State shut out an opponent in a postseason game for the second time. The Mountaineers won 19-0 against Georgia Southern in the second round of the 1987 FCS playoffs.
In allowing only 146 yards (124 passing, 22 rushing), App State's defense posted its lowest total since giving up only 62 total yards in a 44-0 victory against Georgia State on Nov. 1, 2014. Toledo's season low before Saturday was 316.
Toledo senior quarterback Logan Woodside had 28 touchdowns and five interceptions during the first 13 games of 2017. App State was responsible for the first three-interception game of his career.
Taylor Lamb finished his App State career with 90 passing touchdowns (App State, Sun Belt records), 9,786 passing yards and 2,008 rushing yards (fourth Sun Belt QB with 2,000 in his career). His career touchdown-to-interception totals of 90/32 included a 27/6 mark as a senior, or a 4.5/1 ratio. The App State single-season record of 5.0/1 belongs to Richie Williams (20 touchdowns, four interceptions in 2005). Williams and Lamb are the only App State starting QBs with a 4/1 ratio over a full season.
Even though he played the equivalent of 10 games this season (missed two full games and essentially two second halves because of injuries),
Jalin Moore became the sixth App State player with back-to-back seasons of 1,000 rushing yards. He had 1,037 yards a year after rushing for 1,402 and joined
Marcus Cox, Armanti Edwards, Kevin Richardson, Damon Scott and John Settle in the back-to-back club.
Moore had a career-high three rushing touchdowns. Three of his seven games with two rushing TDs occurred earlier this season, and he had three total TDs (two rushing, one receiving) against ULM earlier this year.
Inside linebacker
Eric Boggs finished his career with 347 tackles, 12.5 career sacks and eight interceptions. His position coach,
Dale Jones, had 350 tackles (not counting bowl games, per NCAA rules at the time) as a Tennessee linebacker from 1983-86.
With 1.5 sacks, App State senior and former walk-on
Caleb Fuller increased his season total to 3.0 and his career total to 9.5. He had a career-high 2.0 sacks at Idaho in 2015.
