Postgame Quotes - App State vs. Coastal Carolina
Appalachian State Head Coach Scott Satterfield

Opening statement...

"It's hard to win football games I can tell you that. We always tell our guys it's a fine line between winning and losing and it could go either way, you just have to find a way to win and just really proud of them again tonight. It's four conference games now and we're 4-0 and we're sitting right where we want to be. We'll go to the drawing board again tomorrow on Sunday and watch this film and try and correct any mistakes and get ready for UMass."

On Jalen Virgil getting more involved...

"It just played out that way. We have six wide receivers that are healthy and can play. So we were just trying to plug them into spots out there and have opportunities to play. He's a talented player. He has a lot of speed and a lot of power. He's about 210 pounds and can run like that. We want to get him the ball. Isaiah Lewis is another guy that makes plays, and Thomas Hennigan makes a lot of plays. We need to find a way to get all those guys the ball and it just so happened tonight they cut him loose. On the couple of touchdowns he got was a coverage mishap and he made them pay for it so it was a good of Taylor finding him, and he made a good run after the catch."

On the team's kicking game...

"Our kicking game is very solid right now. Rubino struggled tonight and we'll compete for this week and which one will kick (field goals). Chandler (Staton) ended up kicking the extra point at the end and we'll see, we have to make those field goals. I thought their kicker did a phenomenal job tonight. He missed an extra point, but with the field goals, he put them right down the middle. In close games like this that was nine points and it wouldn't even be close if we made our field goals. We all know that, I think everybody that knows football you have to be able to make your field goals. So, we'll see what we need to do this week in practice and we'll see who'll be our kicker next week."

Appalachian State QB Taylor Lamb

On breaking the school record for career passing touchdowns...

"It was in the back of my mind coming in. You just want to throw one and do it in front of your home crowd."

On protection...

"We had a lot of guys make plays outside. Hennigan, Virgil and Ike had a great game. A lot of players outside. Protection was good.

"It's easier for the wideouts and me when you're getting in a rhythm. Knowing we were calling pass plays, those guys are confident in themselves to go out there and make a play and I am confident in them."

On RBs...

"Those guys (backups) played well tonight. They knew they were going to play coming in. They stepped up."

Appalachian State DE Okon Godwin

On fumble recovery...

"Usually we don't get too many fumbles on defense. Last game was our first time in 18 games getting a fumble recovery. When I got mine I wanted to pick it up and go score, but we've missed so many that I just fell on it and secured it."

On defending Coastal's QB...

"The whole week of practice we worked on not losing and contain the QB. Last week the QB was slipping out of there and this week we focused on making the sack and bringing the QB down."

Appalachian State CB Clifton Duck

On the defense and game...

"As corners we knew we had to make a lot more tackles this week because of the triple option and getting to the outside, but they switched it up and they tried to throw a lot of quick stuff because our D-Line does such a great job at making pressure we had to be ready and make plays and had my eyes be where they needed to be. In the first half we were still getting our feel on the offense, and they ran a different scheme than most of the games we watched. After the first two quarters we adapted, and after halftime we were all ready to go."

Appalachian State WR Jalen Virgil

On touchdown running back across the field...

"It was all-natural. I just caught the ball and broke the tackle and saw the opening across the field. I just took it and got down there."

On maintaining focus...

"It's really just staying focused. You will have times making mistakes but you have to just keep your head up and move forward."

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Jamey Chadwell

"We started moving the ball and I'm definitely proud of that. We had our chances to set ourselves up and we couldn't do some things and give ourselves a chance. Sometimes we have to start making plays. We had them in the first drive and we just missed some. We have to settle for a field goal and we had the guy wide open for a touchdown.

"Sometimes when the moment gets a little big and you start looking up and it takes a little while to get going, don't let the atmosphere and the environment beat us. Don't let the 3-time national champion beat you. If they're going to beat us, let them beat us."

"They're obviously the cream of the crop in the Sun Belt. They have great tradition, they know how to do a game day, and there is no doubt in my mind that if we continue making strides we will be there sooner rather than later.

"They have a great chance to win the league again, and we went toe-to-toe with them. Obviously they made the plays and that's the difference. We feel like we can be here and be the top of the Sun Belt if we continue to make the strides."

Coastal Carolina QB Tyler Keane

On the team's outlook at halftime...

"It was really exciting in the locker room, just seeing some highlights of how we can play and how the defense can play. It was really good in the locker room."

Coastal Carolina WR Ky'Jon Tyler

On being ahead into the third quarter...

"We fought till the end, that's all, that's all I can say. Got stop, plays, full coverage. Little mistakes, that messes us up."

On the team's attitude entering the game...

"We don't care if you're first place, last place, we play every game hard. As hard as we can. We're trying to get a win and get out of the slump."

Coastal Carolina DE Myles White

On the atmosphere and how the team played...

"Yeah, I mean this is something that everyone in college football wants to play in - this atmosphere is second to none. Obviously it's the loudest crowd we've played in front of. Got into it a little bit at the end of the first half, we had some false starts, the crowd got really loud. But I think we were able to battle back from that, learn from that. So we can get better from that going forward."
